Working with Mark was a dream! He got us a great rate, was clear and helpful throughout the entire process, which was reassuring as first time home owners (and first time refinancing). Thank you, Mark!

We worked with Mark to refinance our house and it was a great experience. He was incredibly helpful, informative, and responsive. He also got us a much better rate than what we were being offered by others. It was so nice working with someone we could trust - he really walked us through the entire process and made it a painless experience.

Fabulous experience with Mark. Beyond explaining everything to us carefully, he followed up to make sure things were going as planned. When our appraiser cut corners and botched our appraisal he saw their flaws and successfully appealed to make sure we got a fair appraisal and the right rate. His low pressure approach assured us that he only wanted our business if he could get us the best rate with the lowest fees. I had such a great experience that I recommended him to two other sets of friends who also ended up refinancing with Mark. For all three of our refinances Mark was able to beat all competitors on rates and fees. Best of all we felt like we could trust him because he was frank about when he could or couldn't save us money.

Mortgage FAQs

What is the difference between pre-qualification and pre-approval?

Pre-qualification is an initial evaluation of your creditworthiness based on self-reported information, giving you an estimate of how much you might be able to borrow. Pre-approval, on the other hand, is a more in-depth process where a lender verifies your financial information and provides a specific loan amount that you’re approved for, making you a more attractive buyer.

How much down payment do I need for a mortgage?

The down payment required can vary depending on the type of mortgage and the lender’s requirements. Typically, a down payment of 20% of the home’s purchase price is standard for conventional loans, but there are options available with as little as 3% down, depending on your eligibility and loan type.

What factors affect my mortgage interest rate?

Your mortgage interest rate is influenced by several factors, including your credit score, the loan amount, the loan term, the type of loan, and current market conditions. Lenders may offer lower rates to borrowers with higher credit scores and larger down payments.

Can I get a mortgage with bad credit?

Yes, it is possible to get a mortgage with bad credit, but it may come with higher interest rates and stricter terms. Programs like FHA loans are designed to help borrowers with lower credit scores qualify for a mortgage. Mark can help you explore your options based on your credit profile.

What is a fixed-rate mortgage vs. an adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM)?

A fixed-rate mortgage has an interest rate that remains constant throughout the life of the loan, providing predictable monthly payments. An adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM) has an interest rate that may change periodically, typically after an initial fixed-rate period, which means your monthly payments could increase or decrease over time.

How long does the mortgage process take?

The mortgage process typically takes between 30 to 45 days from application to closing, depending on the complexity of your financial situation and the type of loan. Mark will work closely with you to ensure the process goes as smoothly and quickly as possible.

What are closing costs, and how much should I expect to pay?

Closing costs are fees associated with finalizing your mortgage and can include appraisal fees, title insurance, and attorney fees, among others. Typically, closing costs range from 2% to 5% of the loan amount. Mark will provide a detailed estimate so you know what to expect.

Should I consider refinancing my mortgage?

Refinancing your mortgage can be beneficial if it allows you to lower your interest rate, reduce your monthly payments, or shorten your loan term. It may also be a good option to switch from an ARM to a fixed-rate mortgage. Mark can help you determine if refinancing is the right choice for you.

What is private mortgage insurance (PMI), and do I need it?

PMI is insurance that protects the lender if you default on your loan, typically required if your down payment is less than 20%. PMI can be removed once you have enough equity in your home. Mark can advise you on how PMI might affect your mortgage.

What documents do I need to apply for a mortgage?

When applying for a mortgage, you’ll typically need to provide proof of income (such as pay stubs, W-2s, or tax returns), credit history, employment verification, and details about your assets and debts. Mark will guide you through the documentation process to ensure everything is in order.
